Life’s Reflections

If someone is bothering you, pushing your buttons, getting under your skin or simply making you angry, then it’s time to look in the mirror. Seriously!

Because what you are seeing in this person through their behaviour or actions, is some part of you that you haven’t accepted within yourself. You haven’t made peace with this part of you.

You can then ask yourself –“why is this person getting to me? Causing me to react defensively and leaving me feeling frustrated?

This often occurs because life is reflecting back to you how you truly feel about yourself. Both the ‘good’ and the ‘bad’. So please recognize that this person has come into your life to teach you something. To energetically trigger off in you an unresolved emotional upset or unhealed negative past event that has happened in your life – that is of similar energy and similar learning.

This unresolved emotional issue lies dormant within your physical body and will remain there until a similar learning or event re-enters your life and triggers off this old pain and trauma. You then have an amazing opportunity to address this and ultimately release some of your emotional baggage.

Having said this, it doesn’t mean that this person’s behaviour is mimicking your own or that you are exactly like this person in terms of how they emotionally react and deal with things. Not at all. It just means that there is a common thread – an emotional link that is similar, but perhaps not played out to the same degree. By allowing yourself to stop and look at what is really bothering you, then there is a chance to embrace some inner healing. And perhaps a chance to repair the energetic connection between yourself and this other person.

This person maybe a relative like a parent, sibling or your own child. Or it could be your partner or friend or someone that you briefly bump into along the way. For example, when another car cuts in front of you on the freeway whilst you are driving your car, notice how you react. If you get angry and start yelling at them, then at some stage in your past, you may have cut in front of someone else on the freeway (whether you meant to consciously do this or not), whilst you were driving. So the driver that is doing this to you now, may resemble a similar reaction and behaviour that you have done in your past.

Or alternatively, this person’s erratic driving behaviour may tap into a time in your life where you have felt unsafe or not in control. Once you step back and look at why you are reacting in this way, more often than not, you will clearly be able to see why this ‘reflection’ has come into your life, in the first place.

And sometimes it’s hard to admit this to yourself that you can actually behave in the same way as this other person. However, if you are really honest with yourself, you will be able to come to a deeper understanding that at one time or another, you have done exactly the same thing. In this awareness, your anger and frustration will gently melt away and be replaced with acknowledgment and acceptance. You may even begin to laugh at YOURSELF. And ultimately, this will lead you to a more peaceful place where you can become more tolerant and less reactive to other people’s behaviour.

So my question to you is – “Who’s getting up your nose at this point in time?”

What’s on your mind?

To help you ‘change your mind’, it’s important to accept both sides of your mind – the positive thoughts and the negative thoughts in order to embrace yourself holistically.

Symbolically, if you view your mind as a coin, you need to be aware of both sides of the coin for the coin to actually exist. It’s the same with your mind.

In your normal day to day routine, just start to notice whether your thoughts are generally positively based or negatively based.

Please recognise that this is not about judging yourself and what you are thinking. It’s just simply becoming aware of what you are focusing on.

If you start berating yourself because of what you are thinking about, then this simply fuels the fire for more negatively based thoughts. Ironic isn’t it?

Throughout your day, if you become aware of your thoughts being out of balance, all you need to do in the moment is to say in your mind or out loud –

“I cancel that thought (or those thoughts) out.”

Then simply replace it with a more positive uplifting thought or statement.

For example, if you are continually thinking about the LACK of money and saying to yourself –

“I have no money. I am struggling to pay my bills”.

All you need to say to yourself is – “I cancel those thoughts out.”

And replace it with a positive statement, something similar to –

“I easily and effortlessly pay for my bills and other expenses.”

Another way to balance your thoughts is to view your mind like a radio station where you have the opportunity at any time to tune into any channel that you would like to listen to.

If a song (i.e. negative thoughts) comes on your radio that you don’t like, then simply turn it down and choose to focus in on something else that is more positive (i.e. positive thoughts). So the song is still playing in the background but not affecting you as much.

Or better still, change the channel and listen to some other music that uplifts you (positive thoughts). Remember, it’s your radio station. You have the power to change your mind. It’s just a thought away…..

Meditation & Clearing Your Mind

For beginners to meditation, it’s important to realise that Guided Meditation is not about clearing your mind completely but approaching this type of meditation one step at a time…….

It’s simply allowing yourself to shift your focus from your thoughts to the guided imagery presented within the meditation.

Your mind’s job is to think, so thoughts will still filter through even into your meditative space.

Once you become aware that you have drifted away from the Guided Meditation and you’re thinking about something else, just gently let the thought(s) go and redirect your attention back to the guided imagery.

You may find that you will need to let thoughts go and refocus on the narration of the visualisation quite a few times throughout the meditation. This is normal, this is very normal.

Everyone who has begun a meditative routine has experienced their thoughts coming into play within their meditation.

Just acknowledge your thoughts as tiny steps that need to be released along the way. Again, just one step at a time…..

Over time with consistent meditative practice, the gaps in between your thoughts coming in tend to get wider.

And you will notice that your mind will declutter more quickly as well.

These ‘spaces’ or ‘gaps’ provide some quietness or some stillness, even if it is momentarily.

Much like ‘full stops’ and ‘commas’ and the purpose they serve in the English language.

In these ‘gaps’ created by consistent meditation, moments of clarity can be more easily accessed which inevitably helps you to function more efficiently and effectively in your everyday life.

Why Meditate?

Meditation helps you to de-stress and de-clutter your mind, bringing in a sense of calm and peacefulness.

Moments of clarity can be more easily accessed which inevitably helps you to work more efficiently and effectively in your day to day routine.

Meditation also helps you to be less serious and make your life more playful and fun. It is a really simple way to connect with your inner child.

Meditation is not just about sitting on the floor cross legged trying to empty your mind. There are many different kinds of meditation and not all of them involve highly structured and disciplined forms. Rather it can be fun, playful and adventurous. This is magical. This is the space where miracles can happen.

For some, the fast pace of life has taken away the joy of life and has created an insatiable appetite for the accumulation of external things that we mistakenly believe will fill our spiritual and emotional void.

Life has become too serious and unfortunately this has translated into the experience of meditation which takes the fun, enjoyment and pleasure out of meditating.

Over time, if this is not addressed, we become emotionally detached from ourselves and detached from life itself. Our sense of trust and curiosity slowly diminishes, along with our capacity to experience new and exciting life moments. Restoring your connection with your inner child and allowing this to flourish will help to bring balance back into your life again.

A simple way to reconnect with your inner child is through the Guided Visualisation Meditations available on this site. Guided visualization is an easy method to use and follow. It’s less like hard work and much more about joy, peace and tapping into your true self.

It’s like giving yourself permission to let go of the serious and the mundane and embrace what may naturally and spontaneously unfold.

So are you ready to meditate and bring some more fun, joy and peace back into your life again?

I look forward to guiding you there…………
